Material Science Log - July

July 12, 2026

July 13, 2026

Mainly focused on physics.

  • Learned how to calculate torque.
  • Learned about moment of inertia.
  • Learned about different values of moment of inertia for various shapes.
  • Learned about parallel axis theorem.
  • Learned how torque is applied in different scenarios.
  • Solved some practice problems related to torque and moment of inertia.

Comment of the day

First day studying material science concepts after returning from the training session. Total study time is 04H 36M. It was quite a productive day.

I think I need to focus more on the practical applications of these concepts. Continue solving practice problems and review problems I struggled with.

July 14, 2026

Mainly focused on physics.

  • Learned two diffrent perspective for spinning objects with no slipping. One is the perspective of the center of mass, and the other is the perspective of the point of contact.
    • Must understand how these two perspectives are related to each other.
    • For example, let's say we have a toilet paper roll and pull it to one side. the length of the string unwound from the roll is twice the moved distance of the center of mass.
  • Learned about rotational kinetic energy and how it is calculated.
    • Must understand static friction does no work for rolling objects. This makes ΔK + ΔU = 0.
  • Learned basic methods for solving problems with multiple objects, with at least one rotating.

Comment of the day

Total study time is 04H 31M. It was quite hard for me to focus today (I don't know why, but was too sleepy). Let's try studying physics after work, and chemistry while resting time. This will do because chemistry has more things to memorize.

July 15, 2026

Mainly focused on physics.

  • Learned deeply about methods for solving rotational dynamics problems.
    • There's a ultimate formula that can apply to all rotational dynamics problems. I wrote it down on my physics book (물리학 심화이론), so memorize it repeatedly.

Comment of the day

Total study time is 05H 15M. It was a tiresome day. A disabled student in the class was keep making noises, and some of them were signals of aggression. I really don't understand why I need to keep take care of what I don't want to do. I agree that this is a substitution of Korean Army Service, but I would rather do my military service than this.

But still, even though it wasn't so good in one side but it was a productive day in the other side. It's obvious but going to library somehow makes me more productive than studying at home. Maybe because it's too hot to focus in my home, or maybe because there are too many distractions (such as noises) there. Well, let's keep on studying in the library to make a day more productive.

July 16, 2026

Mainly focused on physics.

  • Solved some problems related to rotational dynamics.
  • Reviewed a lecture about impulse.

Comment of the day

Total study time is 02H 25M. Friday is my hobby day. I went to karaoke and cafe to get rid of stress. While it was a bit concerning that I didn't study much today but on the other side I think having this much rest will rather help me to study more effectively. Let's study hard tomorrow and on the weekend to make up for today.

July 17, 2026

Mainly focused on physics.

  • Learned about Uniform Circular Motion, with new cases added.

Comment of the day

Total study time is 05H 59M. I think what I do when resting also effects my concentration and eventually study time. From now on I will try to read book or memorize formulas.

July 18, 2026

Mainly focused on physics.

  • Learned about perpendicular circular motion, with new case added (with friction).
  • Learned about motion that its impulse does not preserve, but preserve in one axis.
  • Learned about physical pendulum and related concepts, formulas.

Total study time is 01H 25M. Like what I said yesterday, a bad recess can make a whole day fruitless. Let's go to library if available.

July 21, 2026

Studied new physic concepts and reviewed about orbitals in chemistry.

  • Physics
    • Learned about 3 types of Modulus of Elasticity and how they are calculated.
    • Learned about buoyant force and how they are applied to different situations.
    • Learned about 'Continuity Equation' and 'Bernoulli Equation' for fluid mechanics.
  • Chemistry
    • Reviewed one third of Chapter 5: Atom structure and Periodicity.

July 22, 2026

Reviewed both physics and chemistry concepts. Also solved some physics problem(fluid mechanics.).

  • Physics
    • Reviewed how to caculate angular velocity quickly for perpendicular circular motions, especially for spinning objects with friction.
    • Reviewed fluid mechanics, especially mechaincs of flowing objects. Continuity Equation and Bernoulli Equation are mostly the basic method to solve problems, while the situation we need to apply these formulas should be based on experience.
